May 25, 2023What is the Siggery Fund?
In 2019 The Visual impairment Consortium was gifted funds from the Barnstaple Blind Club, which had folded due to the death of long-term contributor, member and chair, Mr Brian Siggery. These funds had been raised through donations and legacies to support people with visual impairments in Barnstaple.
Following Brian’s death Mrs Siggery bequeathed these funds to the consortium to enable it to continue to provide peer support activities for people with visual impairments. The consortium has now developed a Community grant scheme to widen the range of peer support activities available for members of the community who are visually impaired. This fund, named in honour of Brian Siggery is a legacy of the significant contribution made by him in supporting people with visual impairments in Barnstaple.
The fund is available for organisations, groups and individuals to:
- Strengthen peer support opportunities for people with visual impairments in Barnstaple and locality.
- To support the Barnstaple Visual Impairment Consortium to operate in Barnstaple and locality.
- Provide group peer support for people living in Barnstaple and locality with visual impairments, with the aim of increasing peoples’ options for social contact and well-being.
- Provide peer support activities for people with visual impairments,.
- Hire or purchase equipment or services for the enablement of participation in peer support activity and/or enabling social connection for people with visual impairment.
A grant of up to £1,500 is available to help your organisation or groups achieve its project aims.
